For me, Valentine’s Day has always been overrated. I mean, it’s a greeting card holiday and an excuse for companies to make money through sentiment. Okay, that’s the cynic in me, but you know what I’m talking about.
Then there’s the other side of me that sees February 14th as a day filled with possibility – a New Year’s Eve for people looking for love. It’s a day of proposals, declarations of feelings, and candlelit dinners. Romance is alive and well. Maybe chivalry does exist, even for one day. Those are things to celebrate, right?
I was curious to see how others feel about this emotionally-charged holiday. And then the folks over at AreYouInterested.com sent me a little survey they took among their members (as if responding to my request!). They found the following juicy tidbits – and it seems romance is alive and well. Most folks are excited about V-Day and expecting to hook up. Here are some findings:
About 1/3 of singles surveyed expect to end up in bed on Valentine’s Day.
74 percent of singles feel that a first date on Valentine’s Day is a good idea, indicating singles are not intimidated by the romantic pressure the holiday typically brings.
Tradition is still sexy. 58 percent believe the man should be the one to pay for Valentine’s Day dinner with one respondent noting, “It’s part of the romance. You always have to make a good woman feel special!”
About 67 percent said that if they were in a relationship that was rocky, they would end it BEFORE Valentine’s Day, rather than wait it out.
Mobile Dating is a Rising Trend. Be sure to charge up your phone! 43 percent of singles could envision using a mobile dating app to find a date on Valentine’s Day.
I have to admit, I was encouraged and a little surprised. People are ready to put themselves out there for love and romance on Valentine’s Day. And why not? It can be fun.
Maybe I’m not such a cynic after all, and it seems most of you out there aren’t either.

Interesting stat about first dates on V-day. Personally, I would feel a little strange going out on a first date with someone on V-day. Talk about pressure!

I know – I was surprised! I have to say I’d go on a first date for V-Day, if it was for coffee or something low-key. I would definitely not go to dinner or anything – but I don’t think anybody would. Way too expensive!
