I’m excited to be a guest blogger over at BadOnlineDates.com, especially to talk about Valentine’s Day! But I didn’t write a post about how it sucks or a crazy V-date I once had. That would be too easy.
To be clear, Valentine’s Day has never been one of my favorite holidays. At all. I don’t think I’m alone in this. I used to treat it with hostility, watching Vagina Monologues with my friends, getting wasted, or buying chocolates. Sometimes all of the above.
Now, I’ve chilled out considerably. I still tread lightly around February 14th, careful not to partake in one of the expensive L.A. prix-fixed dinners that couples reserve weeks in advance. But there’s no need to dread Valentine’s Day or pretend it doesn’t mean anything. Because I think the concept of Valentine’s Day has gotten lost along the way. Somehow, it’s turned into romance-overload, with expectations running high and emotions running thin. Isn’t it supposed to be more inspiring?
Celebrating Valentine’s Day shouldn’t only be about couples. It’s also about finding love. Sometimes, we have to remind ourselves that it’s possible. So why not on V-Day?
Hope y’all enjoy…Rethinking Valentine’s Day.
