This post is about gratitude. I know, Thanksgiving is coming up so it’s kind of an obvious topic. Actually, I’m about to make pies for the big feast so that may be why I’m feeling so inspired. (Pumpkin, Chocolate Mousse, and Apple Crumble if you’re curious.) I’m always thankful for dessert.
I like this time of year because (as my mother-in-law once said) – it is a spiritual celebration that has nothing to do with differing religious beliefs. It’s about people coming together and being thankful for what we do have in our lives, and lots of eating (if you’re lucky). I’ve spent some Thanksgivings with my family, others with friends who couldn’t get back home for the holidays, and some alone (when I traveled or there was nobody around). In other words, I’ve had very festive, fun times on Thanksgiving and also kind of lonely ones.
But each Thanksgiving has taught me to appreciate what’s in front of me. I’m reminded of everything I have in my life, and I like to try and remember through the rest of the year, too. It doesn’t always happen when things get difficult or I get grumpy. But I try.
So on that note, I’ll sign off and start on my pies. I’m attempting to make real crusts this year, so stay tuned. I may post pics if they look as appetizing in real life as they do in my head.
Happy Thanksgiving!
